Robotic Surgery

Dr Cheng Robotic Surgery Specialist

Robotic Surgery is surgery performed by surgeons using the Da Vinci Robotic Surgery System. It is an advanced key-hole surgery beyond the conventional laparoscopic surgery. The robotic surgery system improves the surgeon’s vision of the operating field by the aid of a magnifying 3D high definition camera. The robotic instruments allow a greater range of motion than conventional laparoscopic instruments. Overall, robotic surgery improves a surgeon’s dexterity and movement precision, reduces fatigue and facilitates complex surgery that would otherwise not able to be performed using key-hole technique.

Dr Cheng underwent robotic surgery training in Australia and overseas. He is one of the pioneers in robotic bariatric surgery. In 2018, Dr Cheng performed the first Total Robotic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass in Queensland.

Robotic surgery is ideal for Revision Bariatric Surgery. It is also suitable for complex abdominal wall hernia repairs, pancreas surgery and bile duct reconstruction.

Is Robotic Surgery expensive ?

The main disadvantage of robotic surgery is the increased equipment cost, some of which must be passed on to patients. Therefore you must be private health insurance to have robotic surgery.
